Tommy Lasorda hand-written letter to Dodger President Walter O’Malley, January 30, 1965
1965
To further the friendship with the Tokyo Yomiuri Giants, Dodger President Walter O’Malley sent instructors Ken Myers and Tommy Lasorda to conduct clinics in Tokyo and at the Giants’ training base in Miyazaki, Kyushu, Japan. Lasorda hand writes this letter to O’Malley informing him of his activities and attaches newspaper clippings, stating: “We met yesterday with Mr. (Matsutaro) Shoriki and it was a real thrill to sit and talk with him. He is a wonderful man, he thinks highly of you and sends his regards.” Within eight years, Lasorda would become Dodger third base coach for Manager Walter Alston and then was named Dodger manager, a post he held for 20 seasons. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1997, after managing the Dodgers to two World Championships (1981 and 1988).
