Invited by Peter O’Malley, President, Los Angeles Dodgers, 1970-1998, for spring training alongside the major league Dodgers for two weeks, Waseda University, Tokyo sent its baseball team to Dodgertown – Vero Beach, Florida. It marked the first time a college team had trained with the Dodgers. The Waseda team was grateful for the opportunity to learn training techniques from the Dodgers in preparation for their season. On February 22, 1994, the team members all signed a Waseda baseball cap and presented it to O’Malley “with our great appreciation.” The photo shows Waseda Head Baseball Coach Renzo Ishii, a 2020 Japan Baseball Hall of Fame inductee, and O’Malley at Dodgertown.
