Oscar Ruhl writes “From the Ruhl Book,” a weekly column in The Sporting News that Walter O’Malley was wearing a cat’s eye ring that was once owned by famed financier and philanthropist Diamond Jim Brady. A friend had given O’Malley the ring for good luck and told O’Malley if he had worn it in 1951, the Giants would not have won the National League Pennant. The Dodgers played their final home game in Jersey City, New Jersey’s Roosevelt Stadium, losing to Philadelphia, 3-2 in 12 innings. The Dodgers had an 11-4 record in Jersey City, as Walter O’Malley had signed a lease agreement for the stadium, serving notice to elected officials with his initial August 1955 announcement of the need for a new ballpark in Brooklyn to replacing aging Ebbets Field.
