This Day in Walter O’Malley History:
-
In the first of only two exhibition games to be played at Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Florida, the Dodgers defeat the Philadelphia Athletics, 5-1, before 3,248 fans. The Vero Beach High School band provides music and, before the game, acting Mayor Lewis Berger welcomes the crowd and introduces Walter O’Malley. The new Dodger President then introduces baseball legend Connie Mack, part-owner of the Athletics. Gus Steiger, Daily Mirror, March 20, 1951

Tradition is slightly altered this year, as the O’Malley’s host a “St. Joseph’s Day” party in conjunction with a Sayonara to the visiting Yomiuri Giants at Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Florida, instead of the legendary March 17 St. Patrick’s Day gala.

Once again, Dodgertown is the site of a festive St. Joseph’s Day party hosted by Kay and Walter O’Malley.
