At a ballgame at Dodger Stadium in 1964, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hope were guests of the O’Malleys. Hope, a former part-owner of the Cleveland Indians in the 1940s, congratulated O’Malley on beating the New York Yankees in four straight games in the 1963 World Series. Mrs. Kay O’Malley mentioned it was a sweet victory sweeping the Yankees and that the Dodgers won the World Series the week of Walter’s 60th birthday. Mrs. Hope said that Bob had celebrated his 60th birthday in 1963 also. Kay and Dolores Hope teased their husbands about their advanced age and about how lucky they were to each have such a young wife! Bob quipped, “Walter, we may think baseball keeps us young, but actually it’s our witty and wise wives!”
