A Surprising Knock on the Door...
During the 1956 Dodgers Goodwill Tour to Japan, Peter O’Malley recalls: “After one of the exhibition games, my parents, sister and I went back to the famous Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. We were with National League President Warren Giles and we all went to the hotel bar and were ordering whiskey sours. We had a great time and then we were going up to our rooms to get ready for dinner.

Mr. Giles got to his room and he realized he left his raincoat in the bar. So, he called the bar and told the person on the phone that he had been there with the O’Malley family and everyone had some whiskey sours, but he had left his raincoat in the bar. He asked if someone could bring it up to his room. The person on the phone asked him again why he was calling and Mr. Giles patiently repeated the same story. Several minutes later, there’s a knock on the door of his room and Mr. Giles answers. It is someone from the bar with a tray full of whiskey sours!”
