Recalling the accomplished sports promoters of this century, none comes to mind with quite the flair, the daring, the administrative brilliance and the toughness of Walter O’Malley. He had all the components with which corporate giants rise, and his organization was to serve as a model for baseball whose ownerships were to send emissaries regularly to Dodger Stadium to study the O’Malley operation. Trade missions even came from Japan.
