At the Board of Directors meeting of the Ebbets - McKeever Exhibition Company, Inc. at 35 Prospect Park West, Brooklyn, Branch Rickey asks Walter O’Malley to familiarize the Directors with the purchase of “some odd pieces of property surrounding Ebbets Field.” Since it was consistent with past practices, the Board authorized Rickey and O’Malley to continue to purchase “odds and ends” real estate near Ebbets Field at prices generally in keeping with assessed valuations.
January 24, 1958
At a special meeting of the Board of Directors of the Dodgers held at 215 Montague Street in Brooklyn, Walter O’Malley notifies the Directors that he has received an offer from Mrs. Mary Louise Smith (widow of O’Malley’s former partner John L. Smith) to sell her stock in the Dodgers. The Board of Directors unanimously accepts the terms of the sale proposed by Mrs. Smith.

Arthur E. “Red” Patterson, Dodger Director of Public Relations and Promotions, copies Walter O’Malley with a response to Robert J. Rice of Rice Brothers Laundry in Vero Beach, Florida, thanking him for laundry wrappers that were printed with the Dodgers’ spring training home schedule. “I can assure you Mr. O’Malley gets a big bang out of this type of promotion,” writes Patterson.
