Black Bats |
World Series Black Bats produced by Hillerich and Bradsby are only issued to the participating World Series teams and selected baseball executives. The idea of a championship bat began in 1934 with the issuance of the brown Detroit Tiger Bat. In 1938, the bat was changed to the familiar glossy black color with silver embossed block lettered or facsimile signatures of the team players. Starting in 1939, the names were stamped in gold color. These bats are very scarce as only 100-150 are produced each year. The Dodgers issued the following Black Bats during Walter O’Malley’s era as Dodger President and Chairman of the Board (1951-79). |
