October 5, 1955 headline in New York Daily News:
THIS IS NEXT YEAR!

After years of frustration in trying to defeat the New York Yankees, the Brooklyn Dodgers finally polish off the Bronx Bombers in a thrilling seven-game World Series in 1955. It marked the first World Championship for the Dodgers since they entered the National League in 1890. Dodger left-handed pitcher Johnny Podres pitched a 2-0 shutout to win the clincher at Yankee Stadium before 62,465 fans on October 4, his second win of the Series. Podres is congratulated by catcher Roy Campanella and third baseman Don Hoak.
