The June, 1951 cover of The Sporting News showed Dodger President Walter O’Malley with General Manager Buzzie Bavasi after they completed a trade for outfielder Andy Pafko from the Cubs. Baseball insiders believed the Pafko trade would certainly enhance the Dodgers’ chance to win the 1951 National League Pennant, but instead it was Pafko who saw Bobby Thomson’s home run go over his head to win the playoff and the N.L. Pennant for the Giants. |
