Willard Mullin of the New York Herald Tribune provides a sharp edge to the 1957 debate as to whether the Dodgers will remain in Brooklyn. Mullin’s famous caricature of the “Brooklyn Bum” has the Bum as Betsy Ross making a Dodger flag and Dodger President Walter O’Malley as George Washington. Washington was known as “the person who could not tell a lie” and the “Bum” as Betsy Ross slyly inquires of “George Washington O’Malley” as to whether the Dodgers will remain in Brooklyn.
