Matsutaro Shoriki, known as the “father of professional baseball in Japan,” as he founded the Tokyo Yomiuri Giants. In 1959, he was the first inductee into the Japan Baseball Hall of Fame. Shoriki was a media magnate, Judo master, and multi-faceted business leader. He arranged for several Yomiuri-sponsored baseball tours to improve relations in Japan and the United States.
