Jackie Robinson was the first Black player of the modern era in Major League Baseball for the Dodgers. His Hall of Fame career was from 1947-1956. Robinson was named 1947 Rookie of the Year, an award that now bears his name. After retiring, he was Chairman of the Board of Freedom National Bank in New York City and a United States civil rights champion.
