Coretta Scott King was the wife of Martin Luther King, Jr., United States civil rights leader who was assassinated in 1968. Mrs. King was an author, advocate for world peace, and known as the “First Lady of the Civil Rights Movement”. Walter O’Malley and his son Peter made arrangements to host the Major League East-West All-Star Classic on March 28, 1970 at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles. The Southern Christian Leadership Conference was the beneficiary of the game’s net proceeds and reported more than $30,000 to help construct the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Center in Atlanta.
