At the bronze plaque dedication ceremony commemorating Walter F. O’Malley in the “Coliseum Court of Honor,” former Dodger first baseman and outfielder Ron Fairly talks about O’Malley’s humorous side. Fairly remarked that at the 1963 World Series victory party at the Stadium Club at Dodger Stadium, O’Malley asked Fairly to “speak on behalf of the players that probably won’t be here next year!” The popular red-head played for the Dodgers from 1958-69 and was one of O’Malley’s favorites. Fairly singled in the winning run on September 20, 1961, the last game played at the Coliseum to help Sandy Koufax earn a complete-game 13-inning, 3-2 victory.
