Former Los Angeles City Councilmember, Fifth District, Rosalind Wyman initially wrote a letter to Walter O’Malley in September 1955, expressing her interest in having the Dodgers relocate, but she did not receive the response she wanted. The Dodger owner replied that he was focused on his efforts in Brooklyn, was not available to meet with her and that Los Angeles already had “two teams in organized baseball,” referring to the Los Angeles Angels and Hollywood Stars of the Pacific Coast League. Wyman persisted in encouraging the Dodgers to help make Los Angeles “a big league city” and was the individual most responsible for bringing the Dodgers westward.
